"... easy to recommend... Segal brings all the experience and enthusiasm one could hope for in a school board candidate. In addition to bringing her perspective as an English teacher and a commitment to improve the district's English language curriculum so it serves all learners, she is a strong advocate for greater transparency and better communication with parents before decisions are made."

"Shana Segal is a breath of fresh air for the school board. She combines the experience of a teacher and a parent. Within a few minutes of meeting her, you realize that she would be a good fit. ... Being both a teacher and parent of children in PAUSD gives her insights others lack. It should be noted that she has a great attitude that will lead to cooperation on the board and when it comes to how the board works with parents. There aren't many candidates like Segal. She's a gem that voters are lucky to have on the ballot."

.. Segal’s experience teaching and time both as a student and parent in the district gives her valuable insight into making informed decisions for the benefit of the district. ...  we believe the experience and unique teacher perspective that Segal brings would greatly benefit the district and the board. ... Ultimately, Segal’s motto “Experience Matters” encapsulates her credibility, which stems from her intimate knowledge of the district and Palo Alto community, and we believe that she will bring a well-informed perspective to the board.

Meet Shana

Educator. Mom. Consultant.

Hi. I'm Shana. I'm running for Palo Alto School Board.

I'm a PAUSD alum, parent, and a public-school educator who understands and cares deeply about Palo Alto schools and our community. PAUSD had an incredibly positive impact on me and inspired my career in public education.

I'm running because I've seen first-hand -- as a former teacher, district parent, and advisor to parents -- how PAUSD is, and is not, currently meeting the needs of students. I believe PAUSD needs district-wide improvements in the areas of academic and social-emotional curricula, equity, and student support and that a community of collaboration needs to be restored after recent difficult years. I'm a firm believer that public schools and public-school teachers are the backbone of our society and can help all students reach their full potential. This can only happen when teachers are supported, and students are supported, engaged, and appropriately challenged.
