Getting to know Shana is a breathe of fresh air; she is authentic, knowledgeable and action oriented. Shana has been a teacher for over 10 years and she knows what she is talking about when it comes to children's education. But, most relevant is her top priority: differentiation, a philosophy of teaching rooted in acknowledging each child's differences and to help all students thrive.

As a Professor of Education at the Stanford University, Graduate School of Education, I am delighted to see an educator run for the PAUSD Board of Education. Shana’s experience and informed knowledge about educational practices will benefit many of our more marginalized students while also celebrating the accomplishment of all PAUSD students.

I’ve only heard the best about Shana Segal! After meeting her at her campaign kickoff, I could tell she was a passionate, welcoming, and approachable person who would work for the better of the community. I particularly appreciate how much Shana understands about our schools at this particular time. This is due in no small part to the fact that she has children enrolled in our schools and is able to learn from her children, fellow parents, and school staff.

As the former PAUSD District Nurse for 26 years, it is refreshing to have a bright, experienced teacher and advocate who will stand up for excellent education and the physical and mental well-being of OUR students!

Beyond Shana's clear credentials for the job she is seeking, she is a fearless person who is not afraid to go in and get the job done.

One of many examples: When the district was short substitutes last year, Shana stood up every time when needed and went into the classrooms when teachers and/or their family members were ill.

I have lived in Palo Alto a long time and retired from PAUSD after working there many years. I think you would be a great addition to the Board. I love that you have young kids in the district, live in the midtown area, grew up attending District schools AND you have experience teaching in a public school! Perfect combination in my opinion. Shana's advocacy for student mental health and wellness is crucial to have on the board in this day and age considering the accelerating pressures that students and parents face. She brings a valuable perspective from being a long-time resident of Palo Alto, a student and now a parent in PAUSD, and a teacher in a top Santa Clara County high school.

Shana has her finger on the pulse of our parent-teacher-student community and knows what is happening in PAUSD. She has the diplomacy and integrity to advocate for what she thinks is right. She would be a fantastic school board member!

I’ve known Shana for years and worked with her as a parent in our preschool program and a professional as a school consultant. She knows our community, our schools, and has the educational background and experience to be the powerful addition we need on the school board. She is invested in Palo Alto and sees that there are challenges and opportunities for improvement. She also believes in honest communication, transparency, learning by listening and the value of collaboration.

My children attended PAUSD and benefitted from access to innovative and thoughtfully designed programs, through both special education and regular education. Unfortunately, many of those programs have been cut. We need to restore the opportunity for differentiated instruction for our all of our students, empower teachers and work together. Shana believes in PAUSD schools and so do I! She has my vote!

I was immensely privileged to be a student in Shana’s English class ten years ago. The impact she had on my life as an educator was profound, instilling within me, then an incredibly insecure and lost teenager, courage and self-confidence and challenging me to take risks within and beyond the walls of her classroom. Not only has she remained a mentor and friend in the past decade, but I have seen her become an incredible mom to two amazing children. She is tremendously empathetic and has every child’s and student’s best interests at heart, and her character and integrity make her compellingly qualified.

Mrs. Segal is the definition of love, kindness, and patience. Although I was not one of the most active nor the brightest student in her class. The year that she taught me has created a tremendous impact and left an everlasting impression on me. She has taught me honesty and hardwork are important values not just in school but of life.

With Mrs. Segal's credential, experience, and personal values. She will no doubt create more than a positive impact to the school board and in the community as a whole.

Shana is a tireless advocate for public education, for meeting the needs of all students and would be a tremendous asset to the Palo Alto School Board. Her background as a Palo Verde parent, a high school teacher and PAUSD Substitute, and as a former PAUSD student gives her the deep knowledge and perspective needed to represent Palo Alto families - whether they are brand new to the area or have been here for a generation or more.

As a pediatric nurse, and mother of three, I understand how vitally important schools are for a child’s physical and mental well-being. I support Shana because of her experience as an educator and a mother, as well as her vision for the future of PAUSD, where kids are happy, healthy, and ready to rise to the challenge. I fully trust her to set a path that will prepare our children to tackle the current, and future, issues they may encounter with confidence and grace.

I have relished connecting with Shana in various ways through the different hats we each wear. She is committed and thoughtful, as a community leader, as a parent, as well as schools expert extraordinaire. I have every confidence she will serve this community with every ounce of her being.

Shana is truly amazing and whole heartedly believes in and devoted to the Palo Alto public schools. As a (previous) school admission counselor, she could have her children admitted to any private schools. However, she had them attend local public elementary school, herself also extremely actively participated in the PTA as well as served as a substitute teacher for the classes, she also frequently organized students and parents social events to build a stronger community. When our campus in Palo Verde needs to temporarily relocate, she voices out to advocate for families’ benefits and offer a grand vision in optimizing the resources for a smoother transition. My two children are in the same grade as hers, so I can highly relate to her selfless involvement. We are lucky to have Shana! Please vote for her!

Shana was a teacher and knows what our students and teachers need. She has been in the classroom, understands educational issues' complexities, and will be a great advocate for our students.

My wife and I raised three children in PAUSD and care deeply about the future of our community. Shana cares about all children and does not come with any agenda except to make our district the best it can be.

I’ve known Shana Segal for many years, and I wholeheartedly support her candidacy for the PAUSD School Board. As a K-12 and community college educator for over 30 years, I recognize in Shana the skills necessary to build on the successes and enact positive change for the Palo Alto School District. Her experience as a student, teacher, parent and involved community member/consultant gives her a unique perspective on the diverse needs of students, parents and school personnel. I’m really excited to see Shana run for the school board. I had met her at some events in Palo Alto. I was very impressed with her breadth and depth of knowledge when it comes to childhood education. She is very honest and has good ethics. She has developed a vast knowledge base of different schools and current trends in education after working with several schools and parents. I know Shana through my son’s elementary school where she was a room parent and substitute teacher. She has consistently shown that she cares about PAUSD and the students. She works to communicate well with all administrators and teachers. She has my full support.

Shana is the best candidate for the challenges PAUSD is facing - from declining enrollment to underachieving minority students.
